Every December an envelope bearing a stamp from the North Pole would arrive for J.R.R. Everyone knows that Tolkien “dislikes allegory” (The Letters of J.R.R. Reading these lines by Tolkien surprised me at first. The real theme for me is about something much more permanent and difficult: Death and Immortality (Letters of J.R.R. I cannot recommend The Letters of J.R.R Tolkien enough - they are often very witty and intelligent. We neither of us expected much success as amateurs, and actually Lewis had some difficulty in getting Out of the Silent Planet published. Inside would be a letter in a strange, spidery handwriting and a beautiful colored drawing or painting. J.R.R Tolkien, my hero as you all know, read The Catholic Herald.
